Life affected as Kashmir observes shutdown | KNO

Normal activities in Valley were affected Saturday as shutdown was observed for second consecutive day in Kashmir on the call of joint resistance leadership called in continuity of protest calendar issued after the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani in July this year.

Normal activities in Valley were affected Saturday as shutdown was observed for second consecutive day in Kashmir on the call of joint resistance leadership called in continuity of protest calendar issued after the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani in July this year.

According to GNS correspondent, shops, commercial establishments, education institutes and petrol stations were closed in civil lines and old city areas of the Srinagar while public transport was also off the roads. The private vehicles and few passenger vehicles were seen on uptown routes but largely the traffic was minimal.

In Old city areas, authorities had deployed police and CRPF men to thwart outbreak of protests after Friday prayers. The forces men were also deployed in several areas of civil lines including Batamaloo and Lal Chowk.

Reports from district headquarters of Kashmir suggest that shutdown was observed on the call of resistance leadership. However these reports said that traffic was plying partially on all major routes. No major incident of stone-pelting was reported till evening.
